Description
This seminar presents the scientific motivation and site characterisation of BedrettoLab Physics (BLP), a proposed deep underground laboratory jointly pursued by UZH, UniBe, UniGe and ETHZ.  I will highlight the motivation and potential of BLP to fill a critical gap in the Swiss research landscape in the areas of rare event searches, gravitational wave research and quantum sensing.  BLP will enable novel ways to perform detector R&D, small‑scale experiments and training across Swiss institutions. I will further summarise our characterisation measurements that demonstrate that the Bedretto site provides rock overburden, seismic quietness and background suppression at the level required for next‑generation searches for low‑mass dark matter, novel neutrino detectors and underground gravitational‑wave searches.
